Yoga Courses in Australia for international students

Are you thinking of becoming a yoga teacher? Did you know you can study this in Australia? A high quality Certificate or Diploma recognised by the Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia (Australia’s peak body for yoga) is available for international students in two locations (Byron Bay and Fitzroy, Melbourne).

For a very reasonable price, you may be able to enrol at the Byron Yoga Centre (established in 1988) and complete a 12, 24 or 36-month course depending on the qualification and package option you choose or are eligible for. Multiple intakes are also available throughout the year so you can commence your studies when it suits you best.

Characteristics of the course(s)

2 days a week 9am to 6pm

15 hours of face-to-face lectures and 5 hours of homework

Byron Yoga Centre Certificate 4 Students

Certificate IV in Yoga Teaching

12 months course

800 hours of Registered Yoga Teacher Training

40 teaching weeks and 12 weeks of holidays (4 terms of 10 weeks each)

Practical and theory lessons where you will learn the asanas, philosophy and skills to comfortably teach others yoga

The course is made up of 10 units, which include “Teach a general yoga class”, “Perform a range of Yoga practices” and “Recognise healthy body systems”

Entry requirements:
  • Academic IELTS overall of 5.5 with no band lower than 5.0 or equivalent.
  • In the case that you do not have an official English test and do not intend or need to take one for student visas purposes, Byron Yoga Centre can evaluate your English level internally
Fees: $10,000

The total fee includes all the materials you may need to successfully complete your course. Byron Yoga Centre will provide you with the books and props necessary for class instruction and practice. An initial payment of $1,500 will be required when accepting the offer to study. A further $3,500 will be due two weeks prior to course commencement (this means you will need to have paid 50% of the course by the first day of class). The remaining 50% will need to be paid in two instalments of $2,500 each prior to Term 2 and Term 3 commencement.

There is no application fee.

Diploma in Purna Yoga Management

You can apply for the course if you have completed the Certificate IV at another institution (this means your Diploma will be only 2 years) or if you have no previous yoga studies, you can package the Diploma with the Certificate IV offered by the Byron Yoga Centre (your total course in this case will be 3 years).

8 terms of 10 weeks (40 teaching weeks and 12 holiday weeks per year)

Further teachings of methodology, complex poses, personal growth, Ayurveda as well as small business management. You will learn the tools you need not only to have in-depth knowledge of yoga, but also run your own workshops and classes in a studio. You will be able to develop your personal yoga programs and learn how to handle one-on-one private yoga classes to meet client needs.

The course is made up of 10 units, which include “Manage a Yoga School”,  “Make Ayurvedic Lifestyle Assessments” and “Develop and Use Emotional Intelligence”.

Fees: $20,000 (2 year course)

$27,500 (receive a $2,500 discount if you package the Diploma with the Certificate IV)

This includes all materials, manuals, books and props you may need to use throughout your course. You will need to pay a deposit of $1,500 to accept the offer to study and $3,500 two weeks prior to course commencement (25% of the course will need to be paid by the first day of class). The remaining $15,000 will need to be paid in six instalments of $2,500 every three months.

There is no application fee.

A pre-enrolment interview (can be done via Skype) will be required when applying for either course(s). You do not need to be an expert, simply demonstrate and explain your interest in the course, background and previous experience with yoga.
