THE GLOBAL TALENT VISA SCHEME

This article provides very basic information on the visa options available under the Global Talent Scheme.

If you believe you have an exceptional talent, which can benefit Australia and transfer useful skills to the employees of an Australian business and the larger community, then you may be eligible for a visa under this scheme.

The visa requirements are rigorous!

GTES STREAM SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

1: Established business stream – 20 positions per year

In addition to the common criteria, these are the specific requirements for the established business stream under the GTES:

  • Only accredited business sponsors can sponsor an employee under this stream for a TSS visa.
  • Sponsor must be a public listed company.
  • If sponsor is a private company then annual turnover must be at least AUD 4 million for past 2 financial years.
  • Employee will need 3 years work experience directly related to the nominated position.
  • Employee, if gets sponsored and granted a visa, is required to help develop the skills of Australians.
  • Income threshold is AUD 148,700 per annum
  • Provides transitional pathway to permanent residence after 3 years, including age cap concessions.

2: Start up stream – 5 positions per year:

In addition to the common criteria, these are the specific requirements for the start-up stream under the GTES:

  • Only for start up operating in tech based or STEM field.
  • Position must be endorsed by the independent GTES start up advisory panel. Only certain panel members can endorse.
  • Sponsoring business must have received at least AUD 50,000 from an investment fund registered as “Early stage Venture Capital Limited Partnership” or have received an “Accelerating Commercialisation Grant”
  • Employer must prove that an Australian can’t fill position, which means labour market testing will apply.
  • Employer must also prove that the position cannot be filled via existing visa programs.
  • Employer must also demonstrate that skills will be transferred to Australians.
  • Income threshold is AUD 80,000. If including equity then monetary component should not be less than AUD 53900.
  • Provides transitional pathway to permanent residence after 3 years, including age cap concessions.
