Why study here?

Perth – One of the top “Places to go” in 2019. – New York Times

With a population of just over 2 million, Perth ranked 24th in the world for best student mix (QS, Best Student Cities 2017) and is one of the friendliest and most relaxed cities you will find in Australia (or even in the world!). With an average of 8 hours of sun per day, it is ideal for students looking to experience the ‘authentic’ Australian lifestyle and make the most out of their time outside enjoying the nature and beautiful beaches of WA.

Perth International College of English (PICE) is one of the oldest privately owned and locally managed boutique English schools in Western Australia. Located in the heart of the city, it is close to the train station and both city bus ports (buses depart from Yagan Square or Elizabeth Quay, both within walking distance from the school).

Classes average 12 students – with a maximum of 15 – and are taught by experienced and TESOL qualified teachers, many of whom have travelled and are familiar with customs and cultures from overseas.

PICE has a small and very approachable team who are always willing to assist their students and help them settle in Australia. To help you integrate and meet new people, they organise activities every Friday afternoon and on the weekends, which include kayaking on the Swan River, bowling, surfing, indoor climbing, ice skating, yoga sessions and much much more! This is also a great opportunity for students to practice their English skills outside the classroom environment.

PICE has preferred class commencement dates but students are also able to commence every Monday. Students can study a standalone English course or package their studies with a VET or university course. Successful completion of an English language course at PICE can lead into entry into education providers such as TAFE, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, Australian Professional Skills Institute, Curtin University, among others.

Entry requirements

If you intend to study for a period of more than 12 weeks and apply for a student visa, it is expected that you can demonstrate your current English level in some way to help determine and justify the number of study weeks you will need to reach your end goal. This can be done by providing an official English language test result (such as IELTS or PTE), completing an internal English test at the school (if you are already in Perth) or filling out a placement test sent to you via email (to be taken under supervision and exam conditions).

Either way, students sit an English test their first day of class to ensure they are placed into the right level and matched with the right teacher to help them achieve their language and academic goals.
