Health Workforce Certificates

HEALTH WORKFORCE CERTIFICATES

A Health Workforce Certificate (HWC) or a Health Workforce Exemption Certificate (HWEC) must be provided to Home Affairs when nominating one of the following occupations for a subclass 186, 187, 482 or 494 visa:

  • Resident Medical Officer (ANZSCO 253112)
  • General Medical Practitioner (ANZSCO 253111)
  • Medical Practitioner NEC (ANZSCO 253999)

Subclass 186 or 187 visa

If the medical practitioner is to be nominated for a subclass 186 or 187 visa – a HWC is required.

A hospital can include up to four doctors on one Health Work Certificate Application Form.

Subclass 482 visa

If the nominated position is located in a hospital – a HWEC is required.

If the nominated position is NOT located in a hospital – a HWC is required.

Subclass 494 visa

If the nominated position is located in a hospital – a HWEC is required.

If the nominated position is NOT located in a hospital – a HWC is required.

Please Note:

Each HWC must specify:

  • The name and date of birth of the nominee; and
  • The position in which the nominee is to work; and
  • The location of the position; and
  • The occupation.

A HWC can only be used once and must be used before the expiry date.

The occupation that appears on the relevant HWC or HWEC must be the same as the nominated occupation.

Failure to provide a HWC or HWEC at the time a nomination application is submitted is likely to result in the nomination application being refused.
