Prospective Marriage Visa Subclass 300 (Fiancé Visa)

What is a Prospective Marriage visa (Subclass 300)?

The Prospective Marriage visa (PMV) or (fiancé visa) is for people who are planning to get married to an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen. Children can be included in a prospective marriage visa application. Some people call this visa the Prospective Spouse Subclass 300 visa.

Once your visa application has been approved, you can move to Australia to marry your sponsor. You can also have your wedding overseas. It’s your choice! The PMV is granted for 9 months, you are expected to get married within that 9 months and the 9 month clock starts ticking on the date the visa is granted.

PMV holders can apply for an 820/801 visa once they have married their sponsor, which then provides a pathway to permanent residence. The PR pathway is: subclass 300 820 801

This PMV must be applied for whilst you are overseas and you must be overseas when the PMV is granted.

Some PMV applicants will travel to Australia on a visitor visa to spend time with their sponsor during the PMV processing period. Unfortunately, not all PMV applicants will be granted a visitor visa to come to Australia.

The good news is that the PMV applications can be processed significantly faster than partner visa applications, which makes the PMV a very attractive option to many couples.
